Reading: Students have been learning so much about Fairy Tales and Fantasy books. They have even been using Epic! to access Fairy Tales. This week will be spending some time figuring out how to say tricky words, and then reading all around the words for clues on what it might mean. We are noticing some new vocabulary words in our books! At the end of the week we will be focusing on acting out our books, and then choosing readers theatre scripts to act out too.

Writing: We are finishing up our poetry unit this week, and students will be making anthologies with their poems. We will be ending our year with students choosing the genre they’d like to write.

Word Work: The new words this week are off, jump, could, each, before. Please have your child practice these words on a regular basis. As they become fluent with them, it’s helps them with their reading and writing.

Math:  We will be completing our end of the year assessment this week. Partners are also busy planning their own math rotation that they will teach the class and we will all try out! Mathematician minds are hard at work in first grade!

Content: We are continuing to learn about communities and will be finishing up our community centers this week. We’ll be learning more about maps, community helpers, and  buildings in a community using books, pebblego and other hands on materials.
